Football Manager 27: The first new features of a highly anticipated episode

Sports Interactive has officially launched development on Football Manager 27 , expected in November 2026. After an ambitious but highly controversial 2026 edition, the British studio promises to evolve its game by taking community feedback more into account. The stated objective is clear: to consolidate the series' new technical foundations while recapturing the depth, clarity, and familiar gameplay that have long contributed to its success.

Creative director Chris Groves explained that the team is working to evolve the current interface while restoring some popular features and behaviors from previous editions. Sports Interactive isn't planning a complete visual overhaul, but rather a gradual redesign of the navigation introduced in FM26. Menus should be clearer, important information more quickly accessible, and several common actions requiring fewer clicks.

An interface fixed thanks to the players

To prepare for this new edition, the developer has launched a testing program allowing select players access to unfinished versions of FM27. Participants will be asked to try out new features, complete questionnaires, and report any issues they encounter. Their feedback may lead to changes before the official release, a strategy designed to prevent usability flaws or major bugs from being discovered too late.

Dialogue with players also needs to become more direct. An official Football Manager Discord server will open in September to bring the community and development teams together. Specific spaces will be reserved for testers, who will be able to interact with Sports Interactive representatives. After the tensions caused by the cancellation of FM25 and the mixed reception of FM26, the studio wants to rebuild trust with its audience.

Unity at the heart of the new generation

FM27 will continue to rely on Unity, the graphics engine adopted by the series with FM26. This second year of operation should allow developers to better master this technology, particularly to improve animations, player movement, and match presentation. The match engine will therefore not be starting from scratch: it should benefit from another year of optimization, with particular attention paid to performance and stability.

The tactical aspect should also expand upon the changes introduced in the previous edition, particularly the distinction between on-the-ball organization and off-the-ball positioning. This system allows for a more accurate reproduction of the principles used by modern coaches, but it sometimes confused experienced players. Sports Interactive now needs to make these tools easier to understand without reducing the depth of roles, team instructions, and in-game adjustments.

Women's national teams and football are expected to progress

National team management will be a full component of FM27 from launch, unless otherwise announced later. Having returned in FM26 via a free update, it benefits from the multi-year partnership between Football Manager and FIFA. International competitions can therefore use their official names, trophies, and visual elements. The next installment is expected to capitalize on this license and further develop international player recruitment, player tracking, and the preparation of national team gatherings.

Women's football, integrated into the series in FM26 with over 30,000 players, will also continue to be expanded. Updating squads, adding competitions, and improving the database are among the logical developments, although the details have not yet been released. Sports Interactive will gradually reveal the final features, the platforms involved, and the exact release date. At this stage, FM27 appears less as a radical departure and more as a consolidation phase, tasked with transforming the promises of the new generation into a more complete and reliable experience.
