Kevin Braun, owner of the OnestÀ game store in Waukesha, Wisconsin, thought he could sell some old Nintendo cartridges for around ten dollars. While sorting through his stock, he stumbled upon 97 brand-new copies of Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt, a 1993 variant that no one had ever recorded. This batch had been lying forgotten in the back of a warehouse for over three decades.
A rarity for collectors
The discovery is a boon for collectors. Original Super Mario Bros. cartridges already fetch very high prices at auction. This previously unseen version, completely absent from catalogs until now, could drive prices up even further. The first copies will be put up for sale by Goldin Auctions this August 2026.
Kevin Braun immediately grasped the significance of his find. The retro video game market has seen spectacular growth in recent years, attracting investors and enthusiasts alike. This 1993 variant, never before identified, is an absolute rarity that could redefine the benchmarks for Nintendo collectibles.
