Olympique de Marseille have already suffered their second defeat in three Ligue 1 matches . A week after their 2-0 loss in Monaco , OM fell to Paris FC 3-2 at the Vélodrome on Sunday evening. Lassine Sinayoko was the star of the show with a hat-trick, including the winning penalty four minutes from time. Marseille , who had twice equalized through Amine Gouiri , have only three points after three games.
Sinayoko silences the Vélodrome after just 23 seconds
The match started in the worst possible way for Bruno Genesio 's men . It took Paris FC just 23 seconds to open the scoring. Pablo Pagis played Luca Koleosho in down the left wing, who then surged forward before setting up Lassine Sinayoko, who finished from close range.
This goal is the fastest conceded by Marseille in Ligue 1 since Opta began collecting this data in 2006-2007. It is also the earliest goal in the league since Wissam Ben Yedder's goal for Monaco against Lyon in April 2024, after 21 seconds.
Marseille's reaction was immediate. In the 8th minute, a big mistake by Soumaila Chergui in the box benefited Amine Gouiri , who beat Kevin Trapp to level the score (1-1).
Sinayoko strikes again, OM punished again
Marseille then took possession of the ball and increased their pressure. But Paris FC needed only one more opportunity to regain the lead. In the 19th minute, Pablo Pagis delivered a cross into the box and Sinayoko, surprisingly unmarked, headed home his second goal (1-2).
Marseille pressed forward until halftime. Igor Paixão, returning from injury, notably hit the crossbar with a free kick in the 40th minute. Marseille had more possession, but Paris FC looked extremely dangerous whenever they could exploit the gaps left by the Marseille defense.
One week after being put in difficulty defensively during the defeat against Monaco , Marseille once again gave their opponent far too many opportunities.
Gouiri puts Marseille back in the game
Upon returning from the locker room, Paris FC immediately threatened Jeffrey De Lange, who made a crucial close-range save against Ilan Kebbal in the 48th minute. But five minutes later, it was Marseille who struck.
Amine Harit found Gouiri with a cutback cross, and the Marseille striker managed to control the ball, beating Trapp to score his second goal of the evening (2-2, 53rd minute). For the second time in the match, OM had erased their deficit.
Marseille then had a real chance to take the lead. In the 75th minute, Keyliane Abdallah beat Hamari Traoré before finding Gouiri in the box. The striker's shot was this time saved by Trapp.
An Egan-Riley handball, VAR review, and Sinayoko's hat trick.
Just when the match seemed destined for a draw, Paris FC delivered the decisive blow. Moses Simon, who had come on just minutes earlier, shot from the edge of the box. The ball was deflected by CJ Egan-Riley's arm.
Clément Turpin did not immediately award a penalty, but he reviewed the footage after a VAR intervention. The referee finally pointed to the penalty spot in the 85th minute.
Sinayoko took charge of the penalty. The Malian international curled his right-footed shot across goal, sending De Lange the wrong way to complete his hat-trick and give Paris FC the decisive lead (2-3, 86th minute). He received a yellow card shortly afterward for removing his shirt in celebration of his third goal.
Two consecutive defeats for OM, Paris FC second
The contrast is striking with Marseille's start to the season. OM launched their campaign with a resounding 4-0 victory against Strasbourg at the Vélodrome . Since then, Marseille have lost 2-0 in Monaco and then 3-2 at home against Paris FC.
So, the record stands at three points out of a possible nine for Bruno Genesio's team, having already conceded five goals in the last two matches. OM will now have to travel to Rennes before hosting PSG.
Paris FC, on the other hand, continues its excellent start to the season. After its draw in Troyes (0-0) and its victory against Nice (3-0), the Parisian club secured its second consecutive win and brought its total to seven points. It occupies second place in the standings after three matchdays. Lassine Sinayoko, who also scored against Nice, left the Vélodrome with a hat-trick that sealed one of the first big nights of this Ligue 1 season.
