Three men, aged 19, 20, and 40, were seriously wounded by gunfire Wednesday evening in the Planoise district of Besançon. Their condition, initially considered life-threatening, was no longer considered so Thursday morning, according to a new report from the prosecutor's office. The victims were standing in front of a grocery store when a vehicle carrying several people approached. Its occupants reportedly opened fire on them before fleeing.
Two different weapons were used
Two men, aged 20 and 40, were taken to the hospital by emergency services around 23 p.m. The third victim, aged 19, went to the University Hospital of Besançon on his own. All three men remained hospitalized Thursday morning. According to initial findings of the investigation, the shooters used a 7,62 caliber Kalashnikov-type assault rifle and a shotgun loaded with buckshot. No suspects have been apprehended so far.
A burned-out vehicle was discovered by police in Montferrand-le-Château, near Besançon. It could be the one used by the perpetrators of the shooting. Investigations are underway to determine a possible link to the attack. Investigators are examining all possibilities, including a drug-related settling of scores. The investigation has been entrusted to the organized and specialized crime division in Besançon.
