British fintech company Revolut announced on Monday, August 10, that it had obtained a French banking license. This authorization allows it to strengthen its presence in France and offer its services under the supervision of the French authorities.
The company already held a banking license in the European Union, issued by Lithuania. It had also obtained equivalent authorization in the United Kingdom in March 2026, after several years of waiting. This new license therefore represents a significant step in the group's European strategy.
Targeting over 30 million customers in Western Europe
Revolut now aims to build a banking offering from France for more than 30 million customers in Western Europe. Its CEO, Nik Storonsky, presents France as a major financial center, benefiting from both a dynamic ecosystem and a robust regulatory framework.
Founded in 2015, Revolut quickly established itself in the digital financial services sector thanks to its mobile-accessible accounts, international payments, and investment offerings. Obtaining this French license should allow it to gradually expand its product range and intensify its competition with traditional banks and other online institutions.
