Amazon has crossed the $3 trillion market capitalization threshold for the first time in its history. The American group thus joins the very exclusive club of technology companies valued at several trillion dollars by the financial markets.
On Monday, around 13:45 PM GMT, the stock was still up 5,20% on Wall Street, reaching $285,69. Since the group's quarterly results were released on Thursday, the stock has jumped more than 21%, adding approximately $500 billion to Amazon's market capitalization in just a few trading sessions.
Cloud computing and artificial intelligence reassure investors
This surge reflects market confidence in Amazon's ability to continue its development beyond online commerce. Its activities in cloud computing, digital services, and artificial intelligence now occupy a central place in the group's strategy and in investors' growth expectations.
This record also confirms the dramatic concentration of market capitalization around a few American tech giants. A market capitalization of $3 trillion gives Amazon considerable financial power, but also puts the company under intense pressure: it will have to continue posting strong results to justify a valuation that has become exceptionally high.
