The 84,000 students enrolled at Aix-Marseille University were targeted by a scam this summer. A fraudulent email was sent to them, demanding immediate payment of €450 for tuition fees. The message, cleverly crafted to sow doubt, could have fooled many of them just weeks before the start of the academic year.

The university rules out the possibility of hacking.

The institution reacted quickly to reassure its students. The university states that it is fully aware of this fraud and clarifies that it did not result from a hack of its computer systems. The relevant departments remain mobilized to limit the risks associated with this malicious campaign.

This case illustrates once again the vulnerability of students to online scams, particularly at the start of the academic year. Universities regularly remind their students to verify the authenticity of official communications before making any financial payments.
