The private platform Alaxione, specializing in managing medical appointment schedules, has been the victim of a cyberattack. A hacker claims to have stolen nearly six million profiles potentially containing highly sensitive information. The company acknowledges the intrusion but disputes the nature and extent of the reported data breach.
According to the hacker's claims, the files included Social Security numbers, bank details, and medical consultation reasons. The hacker allegedly offered Alaxione a deal to return the information before announcing it was for sale for just over €4,000. The company's CEO says he refused to discuss the matter.
Alaxione mentions test data
The company maintains that the attack only affected a development server containing fictitious information used for testing. This data is therefore not associated with real patients or healthcare professionals. However, further technical investigations are needed to determine the precise extent of the breach.
Alaxione has hired a specialized lawyer and a cybersecurity expert and plans to file a complaint. This new case comes after several recent cyberattacks targeting French companies and government agencies. If the theft is confirmed, the presence of medical, banking, and administrative data would expose those affected to significant risks of phishing and identity theft.
