Drug seizures have risen sharply by 25,9% since January 2026. This increase coincides with a reinforcement of police patrols in seaside resorts during the summer months. Law enforcement has intensified its presence along the coast to combat drug trafficking and consumption, which see a resurgence with the influx of vacationers.
Enhanced security measures in Deauville
In Deauville, Calvados, the gendarmerie has implemented a comprehensive operation. Plainclothes officers are operating on the beach to identify suspicious behavior. They are also increasing checks on the railway line connecting Paris to the seaside resort, a key transit point for traffickers. The airport is also subject to enhanced security checks. This strategy combines discreet observation and targeted checks to cover all areas of passenger traffic.
The Normandy coastline remains largely unaffected by major crime. Sixteen coastal towns in the region were included in July's ranking of the safest seaside resorts in France, based on data from the Ministry of the Interior. Summer operations aim to maintain this level of security despite increased visitor numbers.
