A plane crash Thursday at Statesville Airport in North Carolina claimed the lives of former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, his wife, and their two children. The tragedy occurred shortly after a private jet took off for Florida.

An aircraft caught fire after impact with the ground

Greg Biffle was aboard a Cessna C550 with his family when an incident occurred just minutes after takeoff. The plane had just lifted off from Statesville Airport when it crashed on impact and burst into flames. None of the occupants survived.

In total, seven people were on board the aircraft. Emergency services were quickly mobilized but confirmed the deaths of all passengers.

The circumstances of the crash are still unknown.
