The mayor of Alès, Christophe Rivenq, a member of the Republicans party, was evacuated from his home by RAID police officers overnight Monday to Tuesday, following a report of a possible car bomb near his residence. This intervention comes amid repeated death threats against the elected official, who is already under heightened protection.
A few days earlier, his wife had discovered threatening graffiti on the walls of their property, as well as an envelope in their mailbox containing two 9mm bullets and a letter signed "DZ Mafia." According to Christophe Rivenq, the message demanded a halt to police operations targeting drug trafficking in Alès.
An investigation into death threats and intimidation has been opened. Initially entrusted to the police services of Alès and Nîmes, it is now being led by the Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction (JIRS) of Marseille. The public prosecutor of Alès indicated that the graffiti found, signed "DZ NG" for "DZ Mafia New Generation" and "CVN" for "Cévennes," was being taken "with gravity and seriousness" by the authorities.
