Israeli soldiers shot dead a 17-year-old Palestinian boy who was driving a car towards them, as well as a 55-year-old passerby, during an incident at a checkpoint in the West Bank city of Hebron on Saturday, according to an Israeli security official.
According to the army, the driver accelerated toward the soldiers, who then opened fire. An uninvolved person was also hit. Initially, the army stated that two terrorists had been killed, before clarifying that only one man—the driver—was involved.
An Israeli security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that the vehicle was driven by a 17-year-old Palestinian. The passerby, Ziad Naim Abu Dawood, a 55-year-old municipal sanitation worker, was fatally shot while on duty, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA. The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified the driver as Ahmed Khalil Al-Rajabi, 17.
This incident comes as tensions remain high in the West Bank, where clashes between Israeli forces and young Palestinians have been increasing for several months.
