The night ended in a crash and smoke on the Marmagne road in La Chapelle-Saint-Ursin. According to our colleagues at Le Berry Républicain, shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, a car left the road in the village center and crashed into a garden wall. The impact was followed by a fire, turning the vehicle into a blazing inferno in the heart of the community. Inside were three teenagers, two girls and a boy aged 16 to 17. All were seriously injured.
A violent impact, then flames
According to initial reports, the exact circumstances of the accident are still under investigation. The vehicle crashed head-on into a wall before bursting into flames. Residents were alerted by the sound of the crash and then by the crackling of the fire. Some had to evacuate their gardens immediately due to the thick smoke.
The three occupants had managed to get out of the vehicle before emergency services arrived. They were on the ground when the first witnesses raised the alarm. Around twenty firefighters were mobilized to control the fire and secure the area. Three ambulances and two mobile intensive care units (SMUR) were dispatched. The victims received medical treatment at the scene before being transported to the hospital.
Two hospitals mobilized
The boy and one of the girls were taken to the hospital in Bourges. The third victim, more seriously injured, was transferred to the hospital in Tours, in Indre-et-Loire.
The three injured were in critical condition when they arrived at the hospital. National police and representatives from the town hall also went to the scene. An investigation will determine the causes of the accident, particularly whether speed or other factors contributed to the driver losing control of the vehicle. By daybreak, only a charred shell remained of the vehicle. In the village's return to calm, the scale of the impact and the intensity of the fire still bore witness to the brutality of the accident.
