Dijon: A 12-year-old boy recovers the 800 euros he had given to the police

A 12-year-old boy from Dijon received 800 euros from the police as a reward for his honesty. In June 2025, while walking home, the boy discovered several banknotes hidden in a bush.

On his mother's advice, he immediately handed the money over to the police station, believing it didn't belong to them. The officers then gave him a certificate and explained that the bills could be returned to him if their owner didn't come forward within a year.

An immersion alongside the police

Since no one had claimed the money, the teenager was summoned to the Dijon police station on August 3rd to collect the 800 euros. He also received a badge and spent an hour with members of the intervention unit, who showed him their equipment.

The young boy initially planned to buy an electric scooter, but riding these vehicles is only permitted from the age of 14. He will ultimately choose a phone or a computer and also plans to give his mother a gift.
