Ukraine has announced the creation of a military command responsible for long-range strikes, a further step in its strategy to weaken Russia's military and energy capabilities. This decision comes as Ukrainian attacks against Russian infrastructure increase and disrupt fuel exports and maritime traffic near the Sea of Azov.
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he had signed a decree establishing this "long-range impact command," whose mission will be to mobilize all available resources to reduce Russia's war capabilities. According to him, this structure is intended to strengthen deep penetration operations within Russian territory.
For several months, Kyiv has been conducting a drone strike campaign against energy infrastructure located hundreds, even thousands, of kilometers from the front lines. Ukrainian authorities present these operations as a legitimate response to the Russian invasion and as a way to weaken the resources that finance Moscow's war effort.
In recent weeks, the attacks have intensified. On Friday, the Ukrainian General Staff claimed to have targeted the Ilsky refinery in the Krasnodar region, as well as the Ust-Luga refinery complex in the Leningrad region. These facilities are among the targets regularly struck by Ukrainian forces.
According to Reuters, this campaign has already forced Russia to temporarily suspend its diesel exports and restrict navigation in certain areas of the Sea of Azov. Despite this escalation, Volodymyr Zelensky reaffirmed that "there is no alternative to peace," while emphasizing that Ukraine would continue to respond to Russian attacks as long as the war continues.
