The German neobank Trade Republic now allows its customers in France to open and manage a Livret A savings account directly from its app. This new offering is based on a partnership with Axa Banque, which handles the management of the regulated savings product. Trade Republic is thus continuing its diversification beyond its traditional online investment activities.

Like many digital players in the financial sector, the company is gradually seeking to offer services traditionally associated with retail banks. Initially specializing in the purchase of stocks, index funds, and cryptocurrencies, it had already launched a share savings plan in France. Approximately 400,000 clients are estimated to have subscribed to this plan since its launch.

A product owned by 57 million French people

The Livret A savings account remains the most widespread regulated investment in the country, with approximately 57 million holders. Its interest rate is 1,7%, and deposits are exempt from income tax and social security contributions. Savers have deposited a total of €443,7 billion in this account, with some of these funds being used to finance social housing and urban development projects.

Launched in 2019, Trade Republic boasts ten million clients worldwide, including over one million in France, and €150 billion in assets under management. The company has held a German banking license since 2023 and employs around sixty people in the French market. Valued at €12,5 billion in a transaction completed in December, its shareholders include the Arnault and Agnelli families.
