The first feature film by Japanese director Yuiga Danzuka, presented at the Filmmakers' Fortnight in Cannes in 2025, Flowers for Tokyo is released in French cinemas on August 5, driven by a reflection on the fragile links between a fractured family and a capital in perpetual transformation.

A delivery that brings a father and son face to face

The film follows Ren, a young butterfly orchid deliveryman in the rapidly changing Shibuya district, long estranged from his father Hajime, a landscape architect who dedicated his professional life to shaping public spaces for others, never for his own family. One day, an ordinary delivery brings them face to face, rekindling conflicting feelings of resentment and a desire to mend their broken bond.

Aged only 25 at the time of filming, Yuiga Danzuka dedicated this first film to his mother and the city of Tokyo, conceiving his story as an analogy between the reconstitution of a family unit and the continuous transformations of the Japanese capital.

A contemplative style conveyed by urban architecture

The film depicts a Tokyo where the inhabitants seem perpetually in motion and the buildings are always under construction, an urban rhythm that the director deliberately contrasts with the long, drawn-out process of family wounds, which unfold over several years. The cast includes Kodai Kurosaki, Ken'ichi Endo, Haruka Igawa, and Mai Kiryu.

Released in Japan in October 2025 under its original title, the film has since been selected for numerous international festivals before arriving in French cinemas, distributed by Nour Films.
