Spider-Man: Brand New Day achieved the second-best opening weekend in North American box office history with $355 million, narrowly falling short of the record held since 2019 by Avengers: Endgame.

A first day that has already gone down in history

The film first set an all-time record for the best opening day in the United States with $168 million in revenue, surpassing the $157 million earned by Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Over the entire weekend, Brand New Day grossed $355 million in 4,487 North American theaters, just two million dollars shy of the all-time record of $357 million held by Endgame, pushing Spider-Man: No Way Home, released in 2021 with $260 million, down to third place in the rankings.

Internationally, the film grossed a total of $928 million in its first worldwide weekend, driven in particular by a Chinese opening of $121 million, far ahead of the United Kingdom at $49 million and France at $26,6 million.

A resurgence driven by Peter Parker's solo return

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton with an estimated production budget of $225 million excluding marketing, the film capitalizes on a surge of interest fueled by the release of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey a few weeks earlier, which also starred Tom Holland and Zendaya, as well as by the mystery surrounding Sadie Sink's role in the Marvel universe.

This opening confirms Spider-Man's place as the most popular superhero character of the moment, in a year marked by a clear resurgence of interest from young audiences in movie theaters, also driven by films like The Drama, where Zendaya already held one of the main roles.
