On March 25th, Loana, 48, was found dead at her home in Nice. Her death shocked the public, particularly given her highly publicized downward spiral over the past several years, which had foreshadowed such a tragic fate. Loana was also, and above all, the first reality TV star in France, following her participation in the first season of Loft Story on M6 in 2001. Last Friday, his funeral took place in Nice, at the Sainte-Réparate Cathedral. The ceremony brought together his family, close friends, and several well-known television personalities, such as Steevy Boulay, Benjamin Castaldi, and Alexia Laroche-Joubert. The ceremony was marked by several powerful images. His pink coffin particularly drew attention.

Unfortunately, Loana is not the first reality TV star to disappear so suddenly and prematurely. Before her, other prominent figures from reality TV or talent shows saw their lives end far too soon, for various reasons. A look back at these shattered lives…

Gregory Lemarchal

He had everything: he was young, handsome and he sang well. Grégory Lemarchal is undoubtedly the candidate who made the most impact on the Star Academy, on TF1. Suffering from cystic fibrosis, he achieved the feat of winning the show in 2004 despite constant trips to the hospital for treatment. Such a performance that we completely forgot on screen that he was ill. Unfortunately, in 2007, his condition deteriorated. In March, he nevertheless recorded at home the first songs from his new album, the release of which is scheduled for the end of 2007. On March 30, he sang a duet with Hélène Ségara during the first date of the singer's tour. This will be his last public performance. Emergency hospitalized on April 2 at Suresnes hospital, he is awaiting a lung transplant which will never come. On April 29, he was placed in an artificial coma, with his consent, to relieve him. He won't wake up. He finally died on Monday April 30, at the age of 23. His posthumous album sold more than a million copies.

Gerald Babin

On March 22, 2013, Gérald Babin, candidate for Koh-Lanta, died on the first day of filming at only 25 years old. During the first ordeal, the young man felt violent cramps. He suffered a heart attack and was resuscitated, but his heart stopped again upon arriving at Sihanoukville hospital, where he finally died. The season is obviously canceled, but the tragedy doesn't end there. 1er April 2013, a few days after the tragedy, Thierry Costa, the game's emergency doctor, committed suicide, unable to bear the controversy which made the production responsible for this death. Despite this sad event, TF1 and the production company, Adventure Line Productions, announce that the show will not end and that other seasons will be filmed. “The show must go on!” »

Bertrand-Kamal

In September 2020, Bertrand-Kamal, participant Koh-Lanta, on TF1, died at just 30 years old, during the broadcast of the show. After filming the game, doctors discovered he had pancreatic cancer, the prognosis of which was particularly poor. Highly appreciated, in particular by Denis Brogniart, who had invited him to his home, Bertrand-Kamal fought to the end, convinced that he would win this last fight. His wish was for the show to continue to be broadcast, which TF1 did…

Benjamin Szwarc

Gaël Lopes

Gaël Lopes, candidate of Rising Star on M6, died in October 2014 at the age of 25, just a few days after his remarkable performance on Prayer in C, from Lilly Wood and the Prick, which had allowed him to qualify with 91% of the vote. The young man died after falling from the 4th floor of a Parisian building, during the night of October 17-18, 2014. His family spoke of a “delusional episode” at the time of the tragedy. His death caused a great deal of emotion on the show: the team of Rising StarThe judges and other contestants paid tribute to him during the following live show. A public tribute also took place during his funeral at Père-Lachaise Cemetery.

Didier Berton

On June 16, 2023, Didier Berton, a 60-year-old market gardener and wine grower, was crushed to death by his tractor in Capestang, in Hérault. The farmer made himself known by participating in season 6 of Love is in the meadow, in 2011. While he was tinkering with his tractor on one of his plots of espalier vines, his machine tipped over and crushed him, before exploding and catching fire. Neighboring farmers heard an explosion and called for help. But Didier Berton did not survive his injuries…

Francois Xavier

On August 9, 2011, François-Xavier, 25, threw himself under the wheels of a car. Star of Secret Story 3 in 2009 on TF1, he was fragile and depressed. After this adventure, the young man attempted a career in music with a first single in July 2010, Luxury. But his title will never take off. Viewers were then able to find him on TF1 in the show Square ViiP, canceled after only two weeks of broadcast due to very low audiences, to the great regret of François-Xavier. After the sudden end of the show, “FX” wanted to bounce back and wanted to participate in Reality TV Angels 2, but the production refused. Affected by the premature end of Square ViiP, unable to bear falling back into anonymity, he was unable to overcome his depression and ended his life...

Camille Muffat, Alexis Vastine and Florence Arthaud

The boxer Alexis Vastine, the sailor Florence Arthaud and the swimmer Camille Muffat had a track record as long as an arm. Olympic medals, world and European champions, holders of multiple records... These exceptional athletes, who have marked the history of their respective disciplines, have agreed to take on a new challenge for TF1, as part of a game TV filmed in Argentina. But in the land of the Gauchos, the dream of adventure very quickly turned into a nightmare. As soon as the second episode was being filmed, two helicopters used by the production teams and responsible for dropping off the candidates at the test site collided, approximately 140 kilometers from La Rioja. Tom Diversy and Angie Rose

The summer of 2018 was marked by the death of two reality TV candidates in France. On August 23, Tom Diversy, 24, died following a motorcycle accident. The young man made himself known in 2017 by participating in10 perfect couples, on TFX. Tom has continued since filming since he also appeared in The Princes of Love, on W9, and Friends Trip, on NRJ 12. Two days later, we learned of the death of Joanna Rosiak following a heart attack, at age 39. Also known as Angie Rose, she participated in The Celebrity Farm in 2005, on TF1, where she came third behind Jordy and Daniel Ducruet. Tom and Joanna therefore join the sad circle of reality TV candidates whose destiny has been brutally shattered…

Céline

Former suitor of Anthony Lyricos in The Princes of Love, in 2014, Céline died tragically in April 2017. The 33-year-old young woman was hit by a driver around 4 a.m., while she was walking on the side of a road in Maraussan, a town of Hérault. Once the Béziers firefighters arrived on site, they were unable to revive the young woman and could only note her death.

Jean-Pierre Le Guelvout

Figure of Love is in the meadow, in 2010, Jean-Pierre Le Guelvout committed suicide on December 14, 2016, at the age of 46. He left a note: “When despair is greater than hope. I can't take the pain anymore. Julie Fauroux and Yonnel Ponton

It’s a sad series that has put the show into mourning apartment hunters, then presented by Stéphane Plaza on M6. On September 7, 2018, 24-year-old Julie Fauroux died in a road accident. Her car was struck by a truck driver who lost control of his vehicle when traffic slowed down ahead. Passionate about her work as a real estate agent, Julie Fauroux had won one of the episodes of apartment hunters, in 2016. A few days before, last August, Yonnel Ponton, 31, also killed himself during his vacation in Sardinia. The young man participated in the M6 ​​program in 2017, and even won the adventure. According to the Italian newspaper The Nuov, Yonnel was hit by an SUV while he was on the side of a road between Cugnana and Portisco… 

Faustine

Revealed to the general public in 2006 in the star academy 6Faustine Nogherotto died on January 29, 2021 at the age of 31. She had been suffering for several years from serious illnesses, including myalgic encephalomyelitis, and her condition worsened significantly from 2016 onwards. She finally chose to resort to assisted dying in Belgium, after a long battle against the disease.
