While many media outlets had claimed that the young girl hidden under an umbrella during Loana's funeral was her daughter Mindy, a clarification released this afternoon by the family contradicts this version.
According to these new details provided by the family, neither Mindy, Loana's daughter, nor Maelysse, her granddaughter, attended the ceremony. Both reportedly chose not to be present, in keeping with their desire to preserve their anonymity and remain out of the media spotlight.
The people under the umbrella were actually her nieces.
The people hidden from view by an umbrella were therefore not direct descendants of Loana, as has been widely reported, but her minor nieces, that is to say the daughters of her brother.
Confusion arose from the images of the ceremony
Since the first photos of the ceremony were released, the identity of these relatives sheltered by an umbrella had sparked numerous interpretations. Very quickly, the idea that it was Loana's daughter gained traction in several publications, without formal confirmation.
This hypothesis then circulated widely, to the point of being presented as an established fact. The correction made today therefore significantly changes the interpretation of these images.
