This Friday, French journalist and entrepreneur Radouan Kourak, head of the InterVision group and the political desk at Entrevue magazine, was received at the AB Group offices, a stone's throw from the Italian Parliament, by Alessandro Bertoldi, president of AB Group and the Milton Friedman Institute. An essayist and specialist in international relations, Bertoldi is also the author of the recent book Il nuovo impero del evil ("The New Evil Empire"), in which he analyzes the new geopolitical power dynamics and the threats facing Western democracies.

On this occasion, Alessandro Bertoldi introduced him to Souad Sbai, a former Italian member of parliament of Moroccan origin, journalist, and essayist. A prominent figure in the fight against Islamism in Italy, she currently serves as the national head of the Equal Opportunities department for the Lega, the party led by Matteo Salvini. This appointment, announced last May, complements her responsibilities as head of the department in charge of integrating foreign communities.

For over twenty years, Souad Sbai has been one of the most outspoken voices against Islamist fundamentalism. Her work in support of women's rights, the fight against forced marriage, female genital mutilation, and all forms of radicalization has earned her recognition far beyond Italy. Within the Lega party, she now champions issues related to gender equality, the protection of victims of violence, integration, and the defense of democratic values ​​against extremist ideologies.

For nearly two hours, the discussions focused on several of the major issues facing European societies today: the rise of political Islam, the challenges of integration, interreligious dialogue, the defense of fundamental freedoms, but also political developments in France, Italy and the United Kingdom.

Very quickly, the two interlocutors noted the existence of numerous convergences. Both advocate a resolute approach to Islamism, which they distinguish from the practice of Islam, and consider that the protection of public freedoms, the defense of women's rights, the fight against all forms of extremism and the preservation of democratic values ​​are priorities for the future of the European continent.
