Fire in Gironde: an economic crisis unit activated

Roland Lescure has given his approval for the creation of an economic crisis unit, the mayor of Bordeaux announced on Saturday. This decision comes as the fire ravaging the Gironde region remains uncontrolled and continues to spread. Approximately 200.000 people have already been forced to leave their homes or vacation rentals due to the advancing flames.

Thousands of residents evacuated

Local authorities ordered further evacuations Saturday evening in several towns near Bordeaux. The town of Cestas, with 55.000 inhabitants, is among those affected by these preventative measures. Emergency services remain fully mobilized on the ground to try to contain the blaze.

The establishment of this crisis unit aims to assess and address the economic consequences of the disaster for affected residents and businesses. This mechanism will allow for the coordination of emergency measures and the organization of financial support for those affected in the coming days.
