The social leasing scheme for electric vehicles continues to generate strong interest. Speaking on France Inter radio, Economy Minister Roland Lescure announced that approximately 19,500 electric vehicles had been ordered in just two weeks since the launch of the program's third phase on July 16th. This success suggests that the government's target will be reached quickly.
This new campaign aims to enable 50,000 low-income households to access a new electric car through a long-term lease with monthly payments of less than €200. The government hopes to accelerate the transition to cleaner vehicles while making them more accessible to households with limited incomes.
A program that is expected to be expanded
Roland Lescure recalled that previous editions of the scheme had already allowed 100,000 French people to drive electric vehicles under advantageous conditions, with monthly payments that could be less than 100 euros per month depending on the offers available.
The minister also confirmed the creation of a new funding package for professionals who use their vehicles daily, particularly home care workers. Eventually, an additional 50,000 beneficiaries are expected to join the program, as part of the government's strategy to accelerate the renewal of the vehicle fleet and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
