Friday, September 25th marks a tax deadline for 13,8 million French households. These households, who still owe money to the tax authorities after declaring their 2025 income, will have their bank accounts automatically debited. The deduction corresponds to the balance of income tax, an adjustment that takes place every year at the end of the summer to reconcile the difference between the advance payments made and the actual amount owed.
An average amount that is decreasing
The average tax balance reached €1,798 this year. This figure represents a slight decrease compared to last year, when taxpayers paid an average of €1,901. This reduction reflects changes in taxation and declared income over the past year.
Taxpayers in question were able to view the exact amount of their withholding tax in their online account or via their tax notice. This automatic process only affects households whose withholding tax did not cover their entire annual tax liability. French taxpayers should ensure their accounts have sufficient funds to avoid any banking issues.
