Drug seizures have jumped by 25,9% since the beginning of 2026. This dramatic increase is due to strengthened control measures deployed in seaside resorts during the summer season. Police patrols are more frequent along the coast, where tourist activity fuels drug trafficking.

A reinforced security presence in Deauville

In Deauville, the gendarmerie has implemented a comprehensive operation combining several methods. Plainclothes officers are conducting surveillance directly on the beach to identify users and dealers. Checks are also focused on the Paris-Deauville railway line, used by many vacationers, and at the local airport. This strategy aims to intercept drugs as soon as they arrive in the resort.

Despite everything, the Normandy coastline maintains a relatively favorable reputation for safety. Sixteen coastal towns were among the safest in the country in July, according to statistics from the Ministry of the Interior. The increased patrols reflect a desire to anticipate the summer influx, a period conducive to both casual drug use and organized crime.
