Cannes equips its municipal police with nitrous oxide detectors

The Cannes city council announced on Saturday that it has equipped its municipal police force with three nitrous oxide detectors. This is a first in France, according to the municipality headed by David Lisnard. These devices will be used during road safety checks to identify drivers under the influence of this substance.

A unique piece of equipment to combat accidents

Nitrous oxide, sold in cartridges or canisters, has long been misused for recreational purposes. This practice causes numerous road accidents. The city of Cannes has chosen to tackle this problem head-on by equipping its municipal workers with specific protective equipment.

This initiative reflects a local commitment to strengthening control measures in response to misuse, which poses increasing public safety problems. The three detectors will allow municipal police officers to quickly identify the presence of this substance in vehicles they stop.
