The Ukrainian parliament on Thursday approved the ratification of a 90 billion euro (about 104 billion dollars) loan agreement with the European Union, according to a report by Reuters.
The text was adopted with 298 votes in favor, a result well above the required threshold of 226 votes for a parliamentary majority. This vote marks an important step in the implementation of this European financial support for Ukraine.
This loan agreement is part of the economic and financial assistance provided by the European Union to Kyiv since the beginning of the conflict with Russia, in order to support the country's macroeconomic stability and budgetary needs.
The precise terms of the loan were not detailed in this announcement, but its high amount underlines the extent of the European commitment to Ukraine in a context of prolonged war and strong economic pressures.
This vote comes at a time when Ukraine is heavily dependent on international aid to ensure the functioning of its institutions and to finance its public spending, alongside ongoing military efforts.
With this ratification, the agreement must now enter its implementation phase, further strengthening financial ties between the European Union and Ukraine.
