Aircraft manufacturer Boeing has confirmed that the agreement to sell 200 aircraft to China represents only an initial batch, suggesting that future orders could follow.
According to CEO Kelly Ortberg, this commitment revives deliveries of single-aisle aircraft to the Chinese market, after nearly ten years of blockage due to trade tensions between Washington and Beijing.
The initial agreement, reached during a recent political visit, falls short of investor expectations, who had hoped for a more ambitious program of up to approximately 500 aircraft. However, Boeing believes this first contract could pave the way for a gradual expansion of Chinese orders.
Sources suggest that China may later commit to an additional 300 to 500 aircraft, but these volumes remain uncertain and will depend on the evolution of trade relations between the two countries.
For Boeing, this return to the Chinese market is above all an important strategic signal, in a context where global competition in the aeronautics industry remains very strong.
