China has announced it is in discussions with the European Union regarding recently imposed trade restrictions on steel imports, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said.
Beijing believes that these new European measures, which limit the duty-free entry of steel, could affect bilateral trade as well as the stability of global supply chains.
According to Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesman He Yadong, China wants to resolve this dispute within the framework of the World Trade Organization and reach an agreement described as "win-win".
Chinese authorities say these restrictions risk disrupting an already sensitive sector, as steel remains a strategic issue in trade relations between the two powers.
The negotiations are taking place within a broader context of trade tensions between Beijing and Brussels, particularly on industrial and competition issues.
