Rubio mentions a US plan B in case negotiations with Iran fail.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States had "another option" if ongoing negotiations with Iran did not result in an agreement, while leaving the door open to diplomacy.

Speaking in New Delhi, Rubio insisted that Washington would give "every chance" to dialogue before considering alternatives, amid persistent tensions over Iran's nuclear program and the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Discussions between the two countries remain focused on several sensitive issues: the lifting of sanctions, the fate of Iranian funds frozen abroad, and the status of enriched uranium held by Tehran. According to US officials, Iran has agreed in principle to certain concessions, including opening the Strait of Hormuz, in exchange for a relaxation of US restrictions.

But significant differences remain. Washington conditions any agreement on strict guarantees regarding the Iranian nuclear program, while Tehran demands the complete lifting of economic sanctions.

These statements come as oil markets react strongly to speculation about a possible agreement, with a drop in crude prices fueled by renewed optimism, even though the geopolitical situation remains volatile.

In this context, the United States seeks to maintain diplomatic and military pressure while avoiding direct escalation, leaving open the option of an alternative approach if negotiations fail.
