A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a 12-year-old boy was discovered on Sunday on the banks of the Vilaine River in Rennes. The child was found in a bush near the city center with a wet towel tied around his neck.
The circumstances of the death remain unclear, but investigators are seriously considering the possibility of foul play. The Rennes prosecutor's office has confirmed that a judicial inquiry has been opened.

The alarm was raised around 16:40 p.m. after a fisherman heard a child's cries in the area and alerted emergency services. Despite the rapid intervention of medical teams, the victim could not be revived.
Forensic officers and several specialized investigators were mobilized throughout the evening along the banks of the Vilaine River. The investigation has been entrusted to the organized and specialized crime division in Rennes.
