Two people died on the beaches of Gironde after accidents linked to rip currents.

Two people died on Sunday on the Gironde coast after being swept away by rip currents, as the Atlantic beaches were very crowded due to the intense heat. The tragedies occurred in Lacanau and Lège-Cap-Ferret. According to authorities, one of the victims was a 56-year-old German tourist, while the other was a man in his sixties.

A series of interventions that are worrying the authorities

Since Friday, rescue services have responded numerous times along the Gironde coastline to rescue people trapped by powerful rip currents. The prefecture reports 31 interventions in just two days. Faced with this situation, authorities are urging increased vigilance on Atlantic beaches, where rip currents can quickly pull swimmers out to sea. Several departments in southwestern France had already issued alerts in recent days due to the high risk associated with these natural phenomena.
