In the Philippines, rescue efforts are intensifying after a deadly building collapse.

In the Philippines, rescue teams are continuing a particularly difficult rescue operation after the collapse of a building under construction in the city of Angeles, about 80 km north of Manila.

More than 24 hours after the disaster, rescue workers are engaged in a race against time to try to find survivors. According to authorities, approximately 17 people remain missing, the majority of whom were construction workers.

The operations are being carried out primarily by hand, with teams carefully removing stones and debris. The use of heavy machinery is being avoided due to the risk of further destabilizing the collapsed structure and causing new burials.

Search dogs and thermal detectors were deployed, and potential signs of life were reportedly detected under the rubble overnight. Rescue workers also installed devices to try to bring air into pockets where survivors might be trapped.

On the ground, families of the missing express their distress and frustration at the lack of information. Several relatives say they are not being kept regularly informed about the progress of the search, while the wait continues in difficult conditions.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the causes of the collapse, as the safety of construction sites in the region is once again being called into question.
