A participant dies during a Hyrox competition in Lyon; heatstroke is suspected.

A woman died Saturday in Lyon while participating in a Hyrox-type sporting event, the prefecture and the event organizers told France Télévisions. The death occurred amid a heatwave currently affecting much of the country.

According to initial reports, the victim was participating in a competition combining running, cardio exercises, and intensive weight training when she collapsed. Emergency services arrived quickly but were unable to revive her.

Heatstroke is being considered as a possible cause.

The exact circumstances of the death are still under investigation, but heatstroke is a possible cause. For several days, health authorities have been warning of the risks associated with physical activity during periods of early heat, with temperatures locally exceeding 30 to 35 degrees Celsius.

Hyrox has seen a surge in popularity in Europe in recent years. This discipline combines several kilometers of running with intense physical exercises performed indoors or outdoors. The organizers of the Lyon event have not released any further information about the victim's identity or the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
