A new Pikachu and two brand-new Pokémon revealed for Pokémon Pokopia

Nintendo continues to unveil Pokémon Pokopia, its new life simulation game scheduled for release on March 5, 2026, for the Nintendo Switch 2. In a newly released trailer, the game was showcased in greater detail, revealing several gameplay mechanics and, most notably, three brand-new Pokémon, including an alternate form of Pikachu called Pikapale. With its gentle atmosphere and polished art style, this Animal Crossing-inspired title is shaping up to be one of the major releases of next spring.

A game of rebuilding in an abandoned world

In Pokémon Pokopia, the player takes on the role of a Ditto that assumes human form after a long sleep. Awakening in a deserted world once inhabited by humans and Pokémon, they are guided by Professor Tangrowth on a mission to rebuild. The goal is to revitalize this forgotten land by gathering resources, developing the environment, and creating habitats where Pokémon can settle permanently.

The gameplay revolves around abilities learned through interaction with Pokémon, such as Surf for traversing water or Rock Smash for breaking obstacles. The game also offers extensive customization options, both for the main character and the interior of their house. It will also be possible to play cooperatively with up to four players and to exchange data between two Switch 2 consoles via the GameShare feature. The experience emphasizes relaxation, exploration, and managing a living, evolving ecosystem.

New, exclusive regional forms

The trailer ends with the introduction of three Pokémon exclusive to this new installment. The first, Pikapale, is an alternate version of Pikachu, recognizable by its light-colored fur and floppy ears. Less bubbly than its classic counterpart, this reimagined Pikachu seems to reflect the game's peaceful and dreamlike atmosphere.

Two other new creatures accompany this reveal. Mossy Snorlax is a Snorlax covered in moss, with a flower ready to bloom on its head, proof that it hasn't moved in a very long time. Smeargle, on the other hand, stands out for its bright colors and the artistic use of its tail as a paintbrush, like a true street artist.

According to The Pokémon Company, these new forms are linked to specific biomes and could influence progression in certain regions of the game. Further details are expected before the game's release, particularly regarding social features and future exclusive Pokémon. Pokémon Pokopia is already available for pre-order on the eShop for €69,99, but will require a download even in its physical version, which is delivered as an activation card.
