Twenty years after Kill Bill, Quentin Tarantino resurrects a new chapter in his bloody universe… but in an unexpected format. Originally intended for the big screen, "Yuki's Revenge" will ultimately take the form of an animated short film accessible directly within the Fortnite video game starting November 30th. This project, created with Epic Games, allows the filmmaker to realize a long-held dream, with Uma Thurman reprising her role as Beatrix Kiddo.
An abandoned chapter of the original script
This scene, conceived in the early drafts of the Kill Bill Volume 1 script, was meant to show Yuki, Gogo Yubari's sister (seen in the 2003 film), seeking revenge for her mother's death. However, due to budget and scheduling constraints, this sequence was never filmed. Tarantino, however, never gave up on this part of the story. In collaboration with Epic Games and using the Unreal Engine, he finally reinvented it as an animated sequence, faithful to the aesthetic of his work but adapted to the graphic universe of Fortnite. Uma Thurman reprises the voice and likeness of her iconic character, Beatrix Kiddo, facing a formidable new adversary.
A hybrid release, but without a theatrical release in France.
While special screenings of the short film are scheduled to begin on December 5th in theaters across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom—in conjunction with the re-release of the uncut version of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair—France will not have any theatrical screenings. However, French viewers will be able to discover Yuki's Revenge directly in Fortnite, via the game's "Discover" tab, 30 minutes before its broadcast on November 30th at 20 PM. No payment will be required.
This partnership between Tarantino and Epic Games is part of a broader strategy of convergence between cinema and gaming platforms. Fortnite, already used to broadcast concerts and films, is gradually establishing itself as a cultural scene in its own right. By relying on animation and virtual reality to revive a failed cinematic history, Yuki's Revenge also demonstrates Tarantino's ability to bring his imagination to life in unexpected places—all while continuing to write the story of a cult film that has become a pop icon.
