AS Monaco and Paul Pogba have mutually agreed to part ways. The club from the Principality announced the end of its collaboration with the 33-year-old 2018 World Cup winner, acknowledging that the objectives set upon his arrival had only been partially achieved. This decision brings to a close an adventure that was intended to allow the French midfielder to make a lasting return to competitive football.
Paul Pogba's time at Monaco will be remembered for his extremely limited playing time. Last season, the former French international only featured in six Ligue 1 matches, totaling just 115 minutes. He made only one start, against Metz, and subsequently failed to secure a regular place in Monaco's squad.
A return to competition that remained unfinished
The midfielder's arrival had generated considerable anticipation, given his experience and immense popularity. Monaco hoped to gradually benefit from his technical skills, power, and knowledge of top-level football. However, his lack of match fitness and difficulty playing consecutive games prevented him from securing a regular place in the team.
The 2018 World Cup winner will have to decide whether he wants to continue his career in another league or end his professional journey. Monaco, for its part, can reorganize its midfield after a prestigious experience on paper, but one whose sporting impact ultimately remained very limited.
