The Mongolian capital is hosting COP17, the international summit dedicated to desertification, starting this Saturday, August 17. Delegates from 197 members of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea are meeting in Ulaanbaatar for this conference, which will run until August 28. Switzerland is among the nearly 200 countries represented at this major climate event, whose theme is "Restoring Land. Restoring Hope."

Twelve days of negotiations in Ulaanbaatar

This new edition aims to strengthen international mobilization in the face of soil degradation. Participants will discuss strategies for restoring arid lands and combating desertification. Mongolia, itself facing the challenges of desertification, is a symbolic choice to host this event.

The negotiations will take place over twelve days in the Mongolian capital. The delegations will seek to establish concrete commitments regarding the restoration of degraded land. The summit comes at a time when desertification threatens vast territories worldwide.
