The Grand Est prefecture has granted exceptional authorization for tanker trucks to circulate this weekend of August 15th. This measure aims to urgently resupply the region's service stations, many of which have run dry. The drought affecting the region is severely disrupting fuel supplies, which are usually ensured by river transport on the Rhine. The river, affected by the lack of rain, no longer allows ships to navigate under normal conditions.
Logistics disrupted by drought
The authorities made this decision to avoid a complete shutdown of the distribution network. The region relies heavily on water transport for its energy supply. Without this exemption, motorists would have been forced to seek fuel outside the region, exacerbating the difficulties associated with the busy summer holiday weekend.
This temporary authorization is reminiscent of the one granted by the government between April and May. Fuel trucks will be able to operate without time restrictions until the end of the weekend, giving the affected service stations time to restore acceptable stock levels. The situation remains under close monitoring by the prefectural authorities.
