Côtes-d'Armor: an investigation has been opened following the alleged discovery of more than 300 pig carcasses

The Saint-Brieuc public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation following a complaint filed by the animal rights organization L214 for "mistreatment" and "abandonment of animals." The organization claims to have discovered more than 300 pig carcasses on two farms in Côtes-d'Armor belonging to SCEA du Tertre Es Lys, which is linked to the Eureden cooperative.

Footage filmed on August 3rd and 4th at the Saint-Carreuc and Hénon sites reportedly shows several rooms containing dead animals. According to L214, some of the bodies are in a very advanced state of decomposition, suggesting that the deaths could date back several weeks or even months. Live pigs are still believed to be present at one of the farms.

Checks were carried out at both farms.

The investigation has been entrusted to the Moncontour brigade, in conjunction with the Departmental Directorate for Population Protection. Investigators went to the scene on Monday to assess the situation and determine any potential liability. The prefecture indicates that analyses and verifications are underway.

L214 is demanding the immediate closure of the farm and the safe placement of any remaining animals. The organization describes this case as one of the most serious instances of animal abandonment it has documented since its inception. The Eureden cooperative, contacted for comment, declined to comment immediately.
