Toulouse: A 17-year-old minor dies after refusing a police check

A 17-year-old boy died Friday evening in Toulouse from chest trauma sustained during a police chase. The young man, described as an unaccompanied foreign minor with no prior criminal record, was riding a scooter when he allegedly refused to stop for a check.

The incident began around 1 a.m. Police officers reportedly witnessed a transaction that appeared to be a drug deal between the motorcyclist and a driver. When the officers attempted to stop him, the teenager allegedly sped off, nearly hitting several people under a bus shelter and a police officer.

An investigation into the circumstances of the death is expected soon.

A chase ensued through the streets of Toulouse. During his escape, the scooter driver reportedly struck at least one parking bollard, causing significant chest trauma.

The minor, who was taken to the hospital conscious, died from his injuries on Friday around 7 p.m. Approximately €1,000 in cash was reportedly found in his possession. The precise circumstances of the chase and the accident will now need to be established.
