Vienna: Two sisters killed, suspect dies after arrest

Two women were found dead on Sunday in Montmorillon, Vienne, victims of a double homicide. The main suspect, the former partner of one of them, died a few hours after being arrested by police.

The bodies of the victims, two sisters in their sixties, were discovered outside their home after a report from neighbors. The man, also in his sixties, was found shortly afterward near his home, with a gunshot wound to the chest, before being rushed to the hospital.

A massive intervention by law enforcement

The arrest required significant resources, including specialized units and a drone, in an area quickly secured by the gendarmerie. The suspect had been seen leaving the scene covered in blood and armed shortly after the incident.

This tragedy comes amid a backdrop of domestic violence regularly reported in France. According to the latest available data, more than one hundred women were killed by their partner or ex-partner in 2024, a phenomenon that remains a major concern for the authorities.
