A 15-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after seriously injuring a high school student of the same age at a school in Ancenis, Loire-Atlantique. He was placed in pretrial detention after confessing to the crime while in police custody.
The attack occurred on Friday on school grounds, where the victim was stabbed multiple times, notably in the chest, abdomen, and thigh. She was hospitalized, but her injuries were not life-threatening.
Initial reports suggest a premeditated attack
The investigation has revealed a possible motive linked to the deteriorating relationship between the two teenagers. The prosecutor's office cites strong resentment on the part of the suspect towards the victim, as well as evidence suggesting premeditation.
Investigators seized the weapon used, as well as other knives found among the suspect's belongings. He also exhibited previously identified psychological vulnerabilities, in a context of a recent surge in knife attacks in schools.
