Weather: A cold and very rainy Thursday across much of France

A particularly cool and unsettled atmosphere prevails across France this Thursday, with frequent rain and showers in most regions. From the southwest to the northeast, including the Paris Basin and the northwest, the weather takes on a March-like character with repeated showers and often very overcast skies. Only the Mediterranean coast and northern Corsica will enjoy more sunshine.

The heaviest rainfall is expected in the Alps, the Massif Central, and the Pyrenees. The southwest is particularly vulnerable, with 20 to 30 mm of rain forecast between the Basque Country and the Quercy region. This deterioration in the weather is accompanied by a significant drop in temperatures, well below the seasonal average for mid-May.

This afternoon, temperatures will reach only 10°C in Charleville-Mézières, 13°C in Paris, and 14°C in Bordeaux, with rain expected. The French Riviera is an exception, with sunshine returning and highs reaching 22°C in Nice. Across much of the country, temperatures are 4 to 6°C below average, locally reaching as much as 8°C near the Belgian and German borders.
