On July 21, Thales signed a framework contract with the German armed forces for the supply of next-generation optronic vision systems. Several thousand units will be delivered starting in 2027, as part of the Infanterist der Zukunft, Erweitertes System (IdZ-ES) modernization program. This program, for which Rheinmetall is the prime contractor, aims to enhance the operational capabilities of the German infantryman.
An investment of several million euros
XTRAIM targeting systems are among the equipment ordered by the Bundeswehr. This contract represents an industrial investment of several million euros, although the precise amount has not been disclosed. The agreement positions the French manufacturer as a strategic supplier to the German army for its individual optronic equipment.
The first deliveries will take place as early as next year. This order illustrates Berlin's commitment to accelerating the modernization of its land capabilities, a priority since the strategic shift initiated in response to new threats in Europe. Thales is strengthening its presence in the German defense market with this framework contract, which paves the way for future orders.
