Shein is investing 500 million euros in Poland to strengthen its European logistics

The online retail giant Shein announced on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, an investment of 500 million euros to expand its main European logistics platform located near Wrocław, Poland. This operation aims to accelerate deliveries, increase storage capacity, and strengthen the group’s presence in the European market, as the European Union tightens regulations on small imported parcels.

Shein continues its industrial and logistics expansion in Europe. The e-commerce group announced an additional investment of 500 million euros in its distribution center located in Lower Silesia, in southwestern Poland. This new allocation brings the total amount invested by the company in the country since 2022 to one billion euros. The goal is to make this platform one of the main order processing centers for European consumers. By bringing its stocks closer to consumption markets, Shein intends to reduce its dependence on direct shipments from Asia and improve delivery speed.

The site expansion is expected to increase its total area to nearly one million square meters, representing about a 25% increase in storage capacity. To manage these volumes, the company plans to deploy more than 6,500 autonomous robots responsible in particular for restocking, sorting, and order preparation. Shein states that products already stored in its Polish warehouses can be delivered within 48 hours to certain European markets. This strategy aims to meet consumer expectations, accustomed to increasingly shorter delivery times, while optimizing transportation and distribution costs.

Up to 10,000 jobs in Poland by the end of the year

The development of this platform is also expected to impact local employment. According to Shein, the workforce related to its logistics activities in Poland should exceed 10,000 people by the end of 2026. The announced expansion represents approximately 2,000 additional positions compared to current staffing levels. The jobs mainly concern logistics, stock management, warehouse operations, and technologies used to automate facilities. The company is notably working with Logicor, a specialist in logistics real estate, to develop its infrastructure in the Wrocław region.

The group also highlights its relationships with Polish companies. More than 230 local small and medium-sized enterprises now reportedly provide services related to transport, packaging, or professional services. At the same time, Shein claims to host over 500 Polish brands and distributors on its marketplace since its launch in the country in April 2025. This activity illustrates the evolution of its business model, historically focused on selling low-priced clothing, towards a platform also enabling third-party sellers to market their products to an international clientele.

A response to the tightening of European regulations

This investment comes in a regulatory context less favorable to platforms specializing in low-priced products imported from Asia. Since July 2026, the European Union applies fees of three euros to small parcels valued under 150 euros coming from countries outside the community market. An additional charge of two euros also came into effect on November 1. These measures aim in particular to address the considerable increase in low-value imports and concerns regarding competition between international platforms and European distributors.

For Shein, developing a logistics platform within the European Union therefore presents a strategic interest. By storing more goods in Poland before distributing them to other member states, the company can limit the use of individual shipments sent directly from third countries. This organization does not remove customs obligations applicable to imported goods, but it allows for streamlining their processing and circulation on the European market. It could also help reduce some delivery costs, while the new taxes exert additional pressure on the business model of low-price commerce platforms.

A major investment despite slowing sales

The announcement comes as Shein is experiencing a slowdown in several markets. According to the financial results released by the company, its European sales declined by 14% in the second quarter of 2026, in a context marked by regulatory changes and rising prices. The group’s net profit also recorded a sharp decrease. Europe remains an essential market for Shein, representing about 34% of its turnover in the second quarter. The company is therefore seeking to consolidate its position against competitors Amazon, Temu, and AliExpress, who are also expanding their distribution capacities on the continent.

Beyond improving delivery times, the Polish investment reveals a deeper transformation of international e-commerce. Platforms that have built their growth on direct shipping of low-priced products must now comply with stricter regulatory requirements and consumers increasingly attentive to service speed. By dedicating an additional 500 million euros to its European infrastructure, Shein chooses a sustainable logistics presence. This strategy could strengthen its competitiveness, but it alone does not address the criticisms surrounding its production model, notably regarding working conditions, product sustainability, and environmental impact. The evolution of its commercial results will measure the effectiveness of this new organization.
