La Poste has announced a further increase in its postal service rates, effective January 1, 2027. Prices for mail and parcels covered by the universal service will rise by an average of 6,73%, a slightly lower increase than that implemented in 2026 (+7,4%). This change comes amid a continued decline in mail volumes, while operating costs and the investments required to maintain the universal service continue to rise.
Specifically, the price of a standard 20-gram letter will increase from €1,52 to €1,67. The standard e-letter will cost €1,70, up from €1,60, while the premium service letter will cost €3,67. International letters will now cost €2,45, and the price of registered mail will increase from €6,11 to €6,47.
There will also be changes for parcels
Colissimo shipments to mainland France and internationally will see a 4,1% price increase. Conversely, shipments between mainland France and its overseas territories will benefit from a 5% price decrease. Businesses will also be affected, with an average 5,1% increase in industrial mail rates, varying according to their subscription plans.
La Poste explains that these price adjustments are intended to guarantee the sustainability of the universal postal service while maintaining a high level of quality. The group emphasizes that, despite the price increase, overall household spending on postal products is expected to continue to decline, due to the steady decrease in the number of letters sent with the widespread adoption of digital communication. Since 2017, the price of the standard postage stamp has more than doubled, illustrating the profound transformation of postal practices in France.
