The Democratic Republic of Congo is facing an Ebola outbreak in its eastern and northeastern regions. Health authorities are warning of a death rate of approximately one person every thirty minutes.

The epidemic situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo shows no sign of abating. The Ebola virus continues to spread in the eastern and northeastern regions of the country, while health authorities report an alarming toll: someone is dying from the disease every thirty minutes.

Some 16,000 doses of vaccine have arrived in the area in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus. This delivery comes as the epidemic strikes areas already weakened by years of armed conflict, which considerably complicates the health response operations.

The DRC is one of the countries most affected by Ebola in recent history. The disease, transmitted through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected individuals, causes hemorrhagic fevers with a fatality rate that can exceed 50% without appropriate treatment.
