Condé-sur-Sarthe: The Council of State is called upon following a damning report on the prison

Gérald Darmanin has asked the Council of State to overturn a decision by the Caen Administrative Court ordering him to put an end to unethical conduct at the Condé-sur-Sarthe prison in the Orne department. The highest administrative court will examine the case on August 21.

In its ruling of July 18, the court cited insulting, racist, and supremacist remarks, violence, humiliation, and brutal strip searches. These incidents had been noted in May in the organized crime unit by the Inspector General of Places of Deprivation of Liberty.

The ministry disputes the findings

In his request filed on July 31, the Minister of Justice asserts that the accusations against the prison officers are not supported by objective evidence. He also believes that the judge did not sufficiently consider the measures already taken by the administration.

The proceedings before the administrative court were initiated by the International Observatory of Prisons following the publication of the Inspector General's report. Several lawyers representing prisoners also joined the appeal.
