The death toll from the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela last week continues to rise. Venezuelan authorities have announced that 2,645 people have now lost their lives as a result of the disaster, which caused widespread damage in several regions of the country.
According to the Venezuelan Ministry of Information, more than 12,000 people have also been injured. Rescue teams are continuing their operations in the disaster areas, where searches are ongoing amidst collapsed buildings and severely damaged infrastructure.
The disaster also left approximately 15,000 residents homeless. Many families were forced to leave their homes, while authorities worked to provide emergency assistance to those affected by the earthquakes.
The two earthquakes that struck on June 24 are among the deadliest natural disasters to hit Venezuela in recent years. Authorities are continuing to assess the extent of the destruction and coordinate relief efforts to assist the affected populations.
